DMX health updates – Rapper NOT dead but remains in vegetative state on life support after OD caused 3 heart attacks

DMX is NOT dead despite social media rumours suggesting the rapper had passed away in hospital.

The 50-year-old star, real name Earl Simmons, is said to be on life support in a vegetative state after suffering three heart attacks during a drug overdose last Friday, according to reports.

His manager and founder of Loud Records Steve Rifkind confirmed that the 50-year-old’s condition remains unchanged as the family hold out hope.

Doctors yesterday performed tests on DMX’s level of brain function – which could be critical in determining his chance of recovery.

Comedian and friend Luenell sparked speculation the star had died, writing on Instagram that he had passed and prompting the hashtag #RIPDMX to trend.

She later apologized, and clarified she meant that – given his grave condition – “that’s what I call ‘gone'”, adding: “I’m sorry to all #DMX.”

“DMX is currently on life support and in a coma. There are multiple people with inaccurate information about his well-being and it is not helpful and productive,” his manager told NBC News on Tuesday night.

“Tomorrow he will undergo further tests on his brain function and his family will determine what’s best from there,” he added.

Members of his family were able to visit with him this week – as hundreds gathered outside the hospital in White Plain, New York, where he has been treated since last Friday night.

  • DMX ‘NOT DEAD’ SAYS MANAGER

The manager of rapper Earl “DMX” Simmons has said the star is “not dead” and urged fans not to post “RIPDMX” comments on social media.

Steven J Rifkind has posted a video on social media to set the record straight on the status of the rapper’s condition, debunking death rumours.

He said: “Everybody please stop with posting … with these rumours.

“DMX is still alive, yes, he is on life support. Please, it’s not helping anybody by having seen these false rumours. Let the family relax for a night. You’ll be hearing a statement from the family sometime tomorrow.”

  • HOW DID DMX BECOME FAMOUS?

DMX became the “undisputed reigning king of hardcore rap” following the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., according to AllMusic.com.

He established himself with his debut album It’s Dark and Hell is Hot, and found more stardom with the follow-up Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.

“Both albums reached number one on the Billboard charts in their first week, making DMX the first recording artist in music history to have his first two albums reach number one within a year,” according to Encyclopedia.com.

  • WHAT ARE DMX’S BIGGEST SONGS?

The rapper had a whopping 12 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1999 and 2003.

Get at Me Dog – the first single off his first album – is what got him started.

The website UDiscoverMusic listed DMX’s 10 best songs.

“DMX’s prolificacy doesn’t explain his popularity, but there were innumerable reasons his music resonated,” author Jim Bell wrote.

“His gruff voice, a graveled and smoky rasp, was unmistakable. The intensity and charisma of his delivery never faltered, audible in every literal growl and bark, every concussive ‘WHAT!’ ad-lib”

Other favored DMX songs include Who We Be, 24 Hours to Live, and Money.

  • MASTER P PAYS TRIBUTE

Master P added that there will “never be another DMX,” stating “he’s one of a kind.”

“I hope that God spares him so he can be with us even longer,” he told TMZ.

It was revealed on Thursday that the family of the famed rapper may be forced to make a hard decision today after the results of his brain tests.

The music star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, remains in a coma and had reportedly had no brain activity since he was hospitalized last Friday.

  • ‘HEARTBREAK HOTEL’

DMX was seen on video dancing along to The Jackson 5’s Heartbreak Hotel just days before he landed in the hospital due to a reported drug overdose-induced heart attack.

In an Instagram posted by his fiance Desiree Lindstrom, DMX is seen driving while jamming out to The Jackson 5’s This Place Hotel (a.k.a. Heartbreak Hotel).

“I promised I would never ever be returnin'” is the lyric that plays just as DMX turns to the camera and nods his head.

Lindstrom, the mother of DMX’s five-year-old son Exodus, then turns the camera to herself just as DMX is heard off-camera belting out the rest of the song’s lyrics.

  • HARD DECISION

The family of famed rapper DMX may be forced to make a hard decision after the results of his brain tests.

DMX remains in a coma and had reportedly had no brain activity since he was hospitalized last Friday.

TMZ reported on Wednesday that the brain tests “showed no improvement” of activity since late Friday.

In another sign of “dwindling hope,” DMX’s longtime manager and friend, Steve Rifkin, has reportedly been asked to fly out to New York.

On Tuesday, hospital staff made an “X” sign with their arms out the window as some of the famed rapper’s 15 children joined the emotional vigil.

  • ‘WE COULD HAVE HELPED HIM’

Master P has claimed that DMX’s heart attack could have been avoided as the rapper fights for his life in a New York hospital.

He called for better education and a union for hip hop artists after DMX suffered an alleged drug overdose which triggered the heart attack last Friday.

Master P called him an “icon” and he told TMZ that he hopes “God spares him.”

“I hate that we have to wait until something happens to these guys, to one of us, before everybody really starts saying how much they care and they love you.

  • ‘STOP POSTING RUMORS’

DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind pleaded with the public later Thursday night telling them to “please stop posting these rumors” just minutes after false reports of DMX’s passing began spreading on social media.

“DMX is still alive. Yes, he is on life support, but please, it’s not helping anybody by having them see these false rumors,” Rifkind said in an emotional plea through Instagram.

“Let the family relax for a night, but you’ll be hearing a statement from the family sometime tomorrow.”

  • FALSE ALARM

“#RIPDMX” started trending late Thursday night after unconfirmed social media reports claimed the rapper had died.

No major outlets confirmed his passing and no source close to the rapper commented.

Friend and comedian Luenell had led people to believe DMX had died, posting an Instagram story saying he had “passed”.

She later apologized for the confusion, explaining that she meant – given his grave condition – “that’s what I call ‘gone'” and added: “I’m sorry to all #DMX.”

  • HOW MANY KIDS?

It is believed that DMX has 15 children.

He shares four children with Tashera Simmons, but has 11 children with other women.

The musician became a father for the 15th time when girlfriend Desiree Lindstrom had his baby in 2016, according to Us Weekly.

DMX told TMZ at the time that the child is a “blessing.”

  • PREMATURE TWEET

On April, 6, 2021, Jordan thought rapper DMX had died and tweeted “Rest in Paradise DMX” along with a crown and a praying emoji.

Her tweet caused a lot of confusion among fans who brutally criticised her as the 50-year old rapper is alive, albeit in critical condition in hospital following a drug overdose.

Twitter users were furious over her premature tweet, when the man’s family are praying for his recovery.

  • 2016

In 2016 Page Six reported DMX stopped breathing and had no pulse after suffering a drug overdose in a Westchester, New York parking lot.

A medic on hand administered Narcan, an anti-opioid used to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose, according to police.

The rapper became “semiconscious” and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he received treatment.

X has reportedly battled drug addiction throughout his adult life – and has openly addressed the issues within his songs.

“The truth hurts. Drugs have killed a lot of our great ones. It’s sent a lot of them to prison. I’m praying for DMX and his family.

  • NOT VERY SOCIAL

DMX’s last tweet was posted in 2017.

The rapper shared an article from Hot New Hip Hop titled “Why DMX Is One of the Greatest Rappers of All Time.”

Prior to that, he shared a YouTube link of him performing live on Big Boy’s Neighborhood.

His last Instagram post he shared was on March 24 of a hoodie from his merch line.

  • ONE WITH GOD

DMX is reportedly a Christian and reads the bible every day.

While in prison, DMX stated that he had a purpose for being there: “I came here to meet somebody…Don’t know who it was, but I’ll know when I see him. And I came here to give him a message. And that message is Jesus loves them.”

In 2012, he said he had a calling to become an ordained pastor. He is currently a transitional deacon in the Christian church.

  • 6) CHILDHOOD HOME IN YONKERS, NY

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, spent his early years at the Mulford Garden’s public housing development, The Journal News reports.

According to the New York Post, the development no longer exists after it was knocked down in 2009.

It was in Yonkers where DMX and his ex-wife Tashera met when she was just 11-years-old.

They began dating when she turned 18, with the rapper also living in Yonkers at the time.

  • 5) RENTAL, TEANECK, NJ

The Ruff Ryder rapper is reported to have rented this property in the small town of Teaneck in the late 1990s with his ex-wife.

At this home, DMX faced animal cruelty charges for the mistreatment of more than 13 pit bulls in 1999.

In a plea agreement, he agreed to speak out against animal abuse.

The three-bedroom home sold in 2005 for $380,000.

  • 4) INVESTMENT, HARLEM, NY

In 2001, Simmons invested in a three-story home in Harlem for $725,000 with plans to renovate the building, the New York Post reported.

But plans went unfinished after Simmons discovered in 2008 he was not able to rent out the property as separate apartments.

The vacant property went up for auction in August 2008.

  • 3) FAMILY HOME, CAVE CREEK, AZ

In 2003, DMX bought a home in Arizona with his then wife Tashera for $575,000.

However, Simmons defaulted on payments in 2006, according to reports.

In 2008, he sold the five-bedroom, five-bathroom home at a loss for $447,056.

The 3,700 square foot home came with 2.2 acres of desert along with a guest house and horse stables.

  • 2) TEMPORARY RENTAL, LYMAN, SC

Before DMX was arrested and served time for tax fraud in 2018 he lived for several years in a South Carolina suburb named Lyman, one outlet reported.

Simmons had been arrested four times in South Carolina since 2013.

  • 1) TASHERA SIMMONS’ HOME, MOUNT KISCO, NY

DMX and Tashera’s family home was purchased in 2000 for $649,000.

However, due to personal and legal struggles DMX and his ex-wife struggled to keep the home they previously shared together.

The musician shares four children with Tashera Simmons but has 11 children with other women.

DMX became a father for the 15th time when girlfriend Desiree Lindstrom had his baby in 2016, according to Us Weekly.

In 2014 DMX said that the non-payment for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom blue-paneled home was due to a disagreement over who would pay the mortgage.

Following the lawsuit, he paid back a $250,000 loan but later filed bankruptcy in 2016 claiming that he owed $2million.

The home was transferred to an LLC called Tasher Way in 2019, records show.
