Now if you didn’t know already, today, 7th July is World Chocolate Day. I know, a whole day dedicated to the sweet treat we can always rely on. And now, chocoholics can cover their chips in chocolate thanks to a London chippy.
Olley’s Fish Experience which is on Deliveroo and named one of the nation’s top independent fish and chip shops, will become the first in the country to introduce fish and chocolate chips to its menu. The bizarrely delicious dish was the brainchild of owner Harry Niazi and will be made available on 7th July on Deliveroo.
To celebrate World Chocolate Day – Niazi and his long serving team have topped their ever famous portion of chucky chippy chips with cocoa powder, milk and dark chocolate along with chocolate pieces – giving a twist on what we know as the classic chocolate chip.
The shop, which opened in 1987 in South London’s Brockwell Park is a staple of fish and chip fans across the capital and country. According to a OnePoll study of 2000 people in 2019, fish and chips is still the nation’s favourite tea time option. Celebrities like Kelly Brooke, James Nesbit and Jo Brand would agree and they’re all fans of Olley’s Fish Experience.
Arabella Jenkins at Deliveroo said: “Fish and Chips is in the very sole of Deliveroo and we’re excited to curry on our support of local and community restaurants and take-outs across the country. We know our customers love chocolate. We know our customers love a traditional fish and chip supper. Will they love fish and chocolate chips? What could be batter? Only time will tell”
Harry Naizi at Olley’s Fish Experience said: “We’re looking forward to celebrating World Chocolate Day alongside Deliveroo! Like the rest of the nation we love Choco-LOT and are excited to introduce our latest innovation, the chocolate chip! Afterall, we weren’t named Fish and Chip shop of the year by The National Fish & Chip Awards for no reason!”
So would you dare to try this unusual choice of sauce? For some reason, our mouth is watering at the thought and we are suddenly surprisingly hungry. Maybe it’s the combination of sweet and salty.
If you’re not able to get your hands on this crazy creation, we suggest melting a little chocolate or Nutella in the microwave. You could always take it that one step further and throw some Malteasers in the mix too.
For those of us who prefer to consume chocolate another way, The Bottle Club have launched a range of chocolate liqueurs including Godiva chocolate and white chocolate liqueur – priced at £34.99 each, we think they’ll make the perfect after dinner aperitif.
