Spider-Man is one of the most famous superheroes on the planet. He jumps from building to building, shoots webs and stops the bad guys – with the help of the Avengers. However, Spider-Man’s cinematic journey has not been anywhere near as simple.
Will Spider-Man ever be added to Disney Plus?
The Spider-Man movies are a joint venture with Sony, meaning these will not be available to enjoy on Disney+, at least not for a long while.
Fans will remember there were fears Spider-Man would no longer exist in the MCU after Sony and Disney could agree on terms for a new deal.
In the end, a deal was struck, and the new Morbius movie has a clear link to the MCU, thanks to a cameo from Michael Keaton, who appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Spider-Man – will it ever be available on Disney Plus?
Sony also has the new Venom movie coming as well, and it looks likely these two movies will co-exist and even link up with the Spider-Man trilogy from within the MCU.
However, given the long history where Spider-Man movies are created without the Disney machine, except the inclusion of Marvel’s Kevin Feige, it seems unlikely Sony will be handing over these films to Disney Plus any time soon.
Of course, fans must never say never and there could be a day where all their favourite MCU movies are available to stream in one place.
All the Marvel movies are available on Disney Plus, with few exceptions.
Tom Holland as Spider-Man
Spider-Man and MJ in Spider-Man: Far From Home
As well as the Spider-Man movies, some other films have some licensing issues which prevent them from being on the platform currently.
There are three Marvel movies missing from the platform in total, including the two Spider-Man films.
Other than these, The Incredible Hulk from 2008 is not on the platform, as its rights are owned by Universal.
For a while Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp were delayed from landing on the platform as they still had exclusive streaming rights on Netflix.
Peter Parker and Nick Fury in Spider-Man Far From Home
But those deals are now up, meaning it is just three Marvel films yet to be added to the platform.
The next Marvel movie to be seen on the big screen, rather than via streaming, is Black Widow, to come out in the autumn, after which The Eternals will be released and, hopefully, the Marvel series WandaVision and Loki will be seen next year.
However, with coronavirus still causing havoc for cinema and production, there may be a longer wait for these cinematic or small screen events to arrive.
All the other Marvel movies are avilable to stream on Disney+ now
