The mum of Britain’s biggest family has told how their collie’s “crazy barking” helped them stop a potential burglary at their home.
Mum-of 22 Sue Radford spoke out as the family was left terrified that someone was coming into their home through a basement bedroom, where 18-year-old daughter Millie, who is pregnant, sleeps.
In a video uploaded to her social media channel Sue said: “We basically had someone try to break into the house last night. We’d gone to bed at 20 past 11, and just feeding Heidi, for her last feed of the day and Lola was barking like crazy.
“Honestly she was going absolutely crazy.
“All I could hear was Ellie and Amy saying ‘Shut up Lola’, anyway she was still not having none of it, she was still barking, looking out the window.”
The 45-year-old added: “What Lola tends to do is she’ll go to sleep on Tilly’s bed, next to Tilly but before she goes to sleep she would normally look out of the window next to Tilly’s bed so she can see the back yard of our house.
“She’s barking for ages and then she stops and then we get a phone call from Milly, whose bedroom is in the basement saying I think someone’s outside my bedroom.”
Sue added that husband Noel had a look around but couldn’t see anyone before Millie and Chloe started screaming: “Someone is trying to get in the house”.
The mum said she ran down and turned the light on and saw two burglars running away, with one pushing the other into the car before driving off with the car doors still open.
She added: “I said ‘Thank God for Lola as she knew something was going on’.”
The family have three dogs; Lola, Bluebell and Ivy.
Lola is often seen on walks in the family videos and Bluebell and Ivy are French bulldogs.
Sue and Noah, 49, are parents to Chris, 31, Sophie, 25, Chloe, 24, Jack, 22, Daniel, 20, Luke, 19, Millie, 18, Katie, 17, James, 16, Ellie, 15, Aimee, 14, Josh, 12, Max, 11, Tillie, nine, Oscar, eight, Casper, seven, Hallie, four, Phoebe, three, Archie, two, and Bonnie, one, and Heidie who is a month old.
The pair’s 17th child Alfie was stillborn on July 6, 2014.
They also have three grandchildren – who are Sophie’s children – Daisy, six, Ayprill, four, and Leo, two.
Daughter Millie is set to add another face to the family, as she is eagerly waiting a baby girl in September.
The 18-year-old, who has decided to call her daughter Ophelia, spoke last week about how she is not an enormous fan of some of the effects of pregnancy.
Alongside a photograph of herself that she posted on Instagram, Millie wrote: “As you can see all my weight is piling straight onto the face.”
Last week the young woman posted a 4D scan of Ophelia online.
She wrote: “We had our 28 week 4D scan yesterday at @takeapeeksthelens. Can’t believe how much she’s changed since my last scan.”
