The next series of Mastermind is auditioning contestants over Skype
The beloved quiz series will return for a new run with presenter John Humphrys putting contestants through their paces in the iconic black leather chair.
Mastermind sees four contestants compete for the glass bowl trophy by answering questions on that will test their general knowledge and also understanding of their Specialist Subject, whatever that may be.
However, as the coronavirus pandemic has impacted on the usual audition process, all auditions for the series will be virtual and conducted over video calls.
An official flyer from the BBC Two series reads: “Would you like to take part in the next series of Mastermind?
“The BBC Two quiz show presented by John Humphrys is looking for contenders for the next series.
“Could you be the next winner of the coveted Mastermind Glass Bowl?
“Come and test your Specialist Subject and General Knowledge in the iconic black leather chair!”
They also recommended that prospective contestants get in touch for an application form via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you have applied if your application is of interest then the show’s team will contact you and you will be invited to audition over Skype.
A contestant who previously auditioned over the phone was asked twenty general knowledge questions and was encouraged to make educated guesses on answers they didn’t know.
Faye White wrote for The Birmingham Tab in 2016: “The producer said if I don’t hear back within the next two months, to assume I haven’t made it through to the next round.
“I wasn’t allowed to know my exact score, but let’s just say I’m not waiting by the phone.”
Meanwhile, last year Queen’s Quiz Society shared details on a more recent audition last year.
They wrote on Facebook : “The audition will last a maximum of two hours and will consist of some General Knowledge questions as well as a quick chat on camera.
“This audition is not a job interview, we want you to have fun and enjoy the day!
“A confirmation email with details about what you need to bring, and the Belfast location, will be sent out a couple of days before the auditions (the venue is TBC, but it will be a central location in Belfast).”
The deadline for the eighteenth series of Mastermind’s auditions is on July 27, 2020, so be quick!
If you are liked by the casting team then you will go on to compete and film the series.
The next series will be filmed in Belfast later this year when it is safe to film in line with government guidance to keep those involved safe from Covid-19.
Mastermind returns to our screens on BBC TWO later this year.
