Kasabian have announced lead singer Tom Meighan has quit the band.
The news was announced on Instagram in a post that said the musician was struggling with ‘personal issues.’
The statement read: “Tom Meighan is stepping down from Kasabian by mutual consent.
“Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.
“We will not be commenting further.”
39-year-old Tom had been Kasabian’s lead vocalist since they formed in Leicester in 1997.
His charismatic stage persona was a hit with fans but Tom was also known for the argumentative and intense side of the rock star persona he embraced.
He attempted to start feuds with many of his peers, calling The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas “a posh f***ing skier” and Pete Doherty a “f***ing tramp.”
He also branded Justin Timberlake a “midget with whiskers.”
In an interview with the Daily Record, Tom said he was making an effort to tone down his aggression in interviews.
“When we released the first album, it didn’t help in interviews that we slagged everyone off. We were only messing about, we were having fun but everyone took it a little too seriously…We did it for effect but we were portrayed as monsters instead of just a bunch of lads in a band.
