The next transfer window will be incredibly important for Frank Lampard.
He has enjoyed a relatively successful first season as Blues boss and the former Chelsea midfielder has somewhat proven early doubters wrong as they look set to qualify for the Champions League.
Much of this season has seen Chelsea labelled as an experimental team and one that needs time to develop before performing on the big stage.
However, the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have begun to shift expectations around Stamford Bridge with Lampard’s side tipped as the early challengers to Liverpool and Manchester City next season.
In order to compete, there will most likely need to be more signings along with Ziyech and Werner. A number of issues have been shown frequently this season and amending those problems could be done in the transfer market.
Therefore, Chelsea have been consistently linked with names from around Europe ahead of the next transfer window and more arrivals could be on their way to West London.
Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours for Sunday July 5.
Chilwell is Chelsea’s first choice left-back target
Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is believed to be Chelsea’s number one target to address the issues at left-back in the next transfer window.
However, reports in Metro outline that the Blues could move for Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico or Porto’s Alex Telles if they fail to secure a deal for the £85million-rate Chilwell.
It looks increasingly likely that Chelsea will sign a left-back this summer with defensive issues on the left causing them problems across all competitions. But it remains to be seen whether or not they move for the expensive Chilwell or, instead, look to Europe for other alternatives.
Both Tagliafico and Telles offer well-rounded abilities that could provide more defensive cover than the current options at Stamford Bridge.
Bayern Munich hand Chelsea boost on Havertz transfer
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the club won’t be able to afford Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz this summer.
The 21-year-old has been a widely speculated target of the Blues for a number of months and Bayern Munich’s stance on the player could be a clear boost for Chelsea’s own hopes of signing the youngster in the next transfer window.
While it is not yet known whether Chelsea can afford to buy the Bayer Leverkusen forward, Bayern Munich ruling themselves out of a move for him this summer should be a major boost.
“I’ll be very clear: Financially speaking, we won’t be able to transfer Havertz this year,” Rummenigge told Goal.
“All of European football, Bayern included, are currently facing major financial challenges for as long as it is not possible to play in front of spectators again.
“It’s a decision that Bayer Leverkusen and the player have to make [whether he leaves].
“To be honest, I would also like for Havertz to stay in Leverkusen for at least another year, because we want to have competition.”
Inter open talks with Emerson
Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan have reportedly opened up discussions with Chelsea over the prospect of buying Emerson Palmieri in the next transfer window.
That is according to the Guardian who report that the Serie A side are willing to pay £18million for the Italian left-back.
It is also suggested that Emerson would highly consider a move to Inter with chances of playing at the Euros for Italy next summer looking slim given his a lack of game time at Chelsea.
For Chelsea, selling the 25-year-old could be a major financial boost in their hopes of signing a more defensively sound left-back. Leicester’s Chilwell has been widely regarded as the club’s first choice and increased funds from Emerson’s departure could help finance that move.
