Country music star Kacey Musgraves and her husband Ruston Kelly are going their separate ways.
The pair have been married for two years, having tied the knot in a 2017 Tennessee ceremony.
But in a joint statement, they announced it wasn’t meant to be and they would be separating.
Releasing the statement to Associated Press via representatives, Kacey and Ruston, both 31, made clear that they bear each other no ill will in their separation.
They told “we’ve made this painful decision together”, adding: “With heavy but hopeful hearts we want to put our own thoughts into the air about what’s happening.
“These kinds of announcements are always met with scrutiny and speculation and we want to stop that before it even starts.
“We believe that we were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason and have both changed each other infinitely for the better.
“The love we have for each other goes far beyond the relationship we’ve shared as husband and wife. It’s a soul connection that can never be erased.”
Kacey and Ruston continued: “We’ve made this painful decision together – a healthy decision that comes after a very long period of trying the best we can. It simply just didn’t work.
“Though we are parting ways in marriage, we will remain true friends for the rest of our lives. We hold no blame, anger or contempt for each other and we ask for privacy and positive wishes for us both as we learn how to navigate through this.”
Both Kacey and Ruston have deleted their wedding photos from their Instagram pages.
It’s believed they first met in 2016, at a musical event in Nashville.
Kacey has made it big in the country music business since the release of 2013 album Same Trailer Different Park.
Last year saw her scoop up all four Grammy’s she had been nominated for, including Album of the Year, for Golden Hour.
She paid tribute to Ruston in an emotional acceptance speech, naming him an inspiration for the album and thanking him for “opening [her] heart.”
Kacey previously revealed to Glamour how Ruston helped her musical process.
“After meeting this person who really just allows me to be myself,” she told, “not have to walk on eggshells for any reason, songs started pouring out.”
Ruston is in the same line of work, and even collaborated with Kacey in 2018.
He’s a prolific song writer, penning tracks for other artists like Tim McGraw and Lucie Silvas.
