Christian Pulisic insists he is not getting carried away with comparisons to Eden Hazard after his revival at Chelsea following the Premier League restart. Pulisic has been in fine form over the last few games with two goals in five games.
Pulisic came off the bench to help change the game against Aston Villa in the first game back and has started all four games since, scoring against Manchester City, including the 3-0 win over Watford.
His form has led to claims he is finally ready to replace Hazard, who left for Real Madrid as he came in from Borussia Dortmund.
But 21-year-old American star Pulisic insists he’s just trying to be himself.
“Obviously he was an incredible player for Chelsea, and he’s a world class player, he said on Sky Sports..
“I’m not trying to compare myself to him just yet, I’m just trying to be my own player, and hopefully the fans like that guy.”
But on his own form he said: “I feel really confident with my game right now, happy I can be on the field just helping my team, and yeah I’m just going to continue and keep my confidence high.”
Chelsea moved back into fourth place with the win over Watford having been leapfrogged by Manchester United for a few hours after their big win over Bournemouth.
It also came after the defeat to West Ham that had Frank Lampard seething.
And Pulisic admitted the defeat worked as extra motivation for tonight’s game.
“We needed that one today, for sure,” he added.
“We came out with a lot of energy and I’m really proud of the guys. We knew we needed a big result especially after the last game, dropping some points, and happy we could get that done.
“There was that little extra bit of energy because of that loss and we really wanted to prove a point, and I think we did that.”
