Bayern Munich have reportedly apologised to Manchester City over pictures showing Leroy Sane signing for Bayern Munich before the transfer has been officially announced.
German winger Sane is set to sign a five-year contract with Bayern in a deal worth up to £54.8million to Manchester City.
The deal is yet to be officially announced, with Sane having undergone a medical at the Bundesliga club this week.
But images on social media showed the 24-year-old signing his contract, after the pictures were apparently published on the Arabic version of Bayern’s website.
And the gaffe has led to the German champions apologising to City, according to Sky Sports.
City and Bayern reached agreement earlier this week over a fee for Sane. Bayern will pay City £45m up front, with a further £9.8m payable on the completion of clause-related add-ons.
Sane will earn £385,000-a-week at Bayern – double what City were willing to pay him under the terms of their contract extension offer.
City also have a clause inserted within the deal that entitles them to 10 percent of any subsequent fee if Sane is sold on by Bayern.
After Sane rejected several contract extension offers, City accepted he had to be sold this summer, rather than leave as a free agent next year.
City believe they have negotiated the best possible deal for Sane, given his injury record, the fact he could have left as a free agent and the profit they have made on the £37m they paid Schalke for him in 2016.
Sane has missed most of this season after the winger suffered a serious knee ligament injury in the Community Shield last August, which put paid to a move to Bayern last summer.
City believe the deal they have negotiated for Sane, in a transfer market distorted by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, will prove to be one of the biggest deals of the summer.
The fee agreed for Sane is on a par with Chelsea’s £54m capture of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Paris St Germain’s signing of Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan for £52.6m.
City will look to use the proceeds from the sale of Sane to go towards a new centre-back, with Napoli’s £70m-rated Kalidou Koulibaly their first-choice target.
