Arsenal have announced Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
Martinelli joined the Gunners exactly 12 months ago and was not expected to feature much for the first-team.
But the 19-year-old impressed during pre-season and featured prominently under Unai Emery, before his exit.
His most memorable moment came in January when he ran from deep inside his own half with the ball and finish coolly against Chelsea.
Martinelli was expected to play a major part in Arsenal’s Premier League restart but his season was cut short when he suffered a knee injury in training.
Nevertheless, Arsenal have moved quickly to reward the teenager for his effort this season, which saw him score 10 goals in 26 appearances.
“I am very happy to commit my future to this great Club and I would like to thank Arsenal and all the fans for this fantastic year,” Martinelli said.
“It is the first of many and I can’t wait to be back to play a part in the exciting seasons to come.”
Manager Mikel Arteta added: “I am very happy that Gabi has signed a new contract with us.
“He is a very talented young player and he has impressed us with his performances, attitude and work-rate.
“We are looking forward to getting him back to full fitness and to watching his development at our club.”
“He is a player that his team-mates really like, that I admire and he has a big hunger to become even better so I think it is the perfect thing to do right now.
“It is really important because one of the main foundations that we need at this club is people from the academy,” he added.
“So first of all thank you to everyone who has contributed all those years in the academy with Bukayo, the coaches, the director of the academy, probably Per at the end as well, because they have done a great job.
“I am not just talking about him as a player and how he has been educated, but as a man as well because as I said, he is the perfect example of what we are looking for.”
