A kidnapped and heavily pregnant woman died after being butchered as her baby was ripped out of her womb at a vet surgery.
Police in Mexico report Monica Segura Temich, 22, is believed to have fallen prey to a kidnapper who lured her to meet up by promising her free baby clothes.
According to media sources, autopsy results confirmed her savage cause of death was severe loss of blood caused by a cut made to the abdomen with a sharp object.
Temich was reported by her parents more than a month ago in Juarez, in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.
According to local media she was eight months pregnant and lured into a meeting with her suspected kidnapper who used a false alias on Facebook.
The young mum-to-be had joined a group that offered clothes, nappies, and financial aid to poor pregnant women.
Police say a woman, identified only as Yuli N, 33, allegedly kidnapped the pregnant woman and led her to an illegal veterinary clinic where a botched cesarean was performed to steal the baby.
A subsequent missing person case led police to Yuli who was said to be with a baby she account for.
DNA of the newborn was found to match the pregnant woman’s partner.
During their investigation, police carried out a search of a house that operated as a veterinary clinic and found two firearms, 38 skill cartridges, drugs, and an incubator.
Shortly afterwards, the dead body of the kidnapped pregnant woman was found on a farm.
According to media sources, Yuli remains in provisional detention at a Women’s Social Reintegration Center awaiting trial.
The General Prosecutor’s Office released a statement saying “The investigations will continue until the facts are fully clarified with the corresponding judicial sanction.”
More pregnant women have come forward saying that Yuli also contacted them on Facebook under the name “Ana Paola Covarrubias”, offering baby clothes that she could not use because she had lost her own baby.
