McDonald’s Monopoly won’t be running in 2020.
Back in March, the fast food giant announced plans to postpone the promotion.
This is because a number of the holidays set aside as prizes have been “impacted by current and ongoing restrictions on international travel.”
The company added that it didn’t feel “appropriate” to continue the game at this time – but fans assumed it would make a return later this year.
While many hoped to be peeling off Monopoly stickers by autumn, they’ll have to wait until next year.
McDonald’s UK & Ireland CEO, Paul Pomroy, said customers won’t be able to partake in the competition until 2021.
He said: “We took the decision to close our restaurants shortly before this year’s Monopoly promotion was due to launch.
“We know many of you enjoy this promotion, which has run since 2005 in the UK.
“To enable safe working and social distancing inside our restaurants and to minimise the pressure on our employees, we have decided to cancel this year’s Monopoly VIP campaign.
“It creates a great deal of excitement inside our restaurants and relies heavily upon menu items we cannot safely reintroduce yet.”
Thankfully, customers have been reassured that the promotion will be returning again next year.
The spokesperson added: “Rest assured, we are already planning for Monopoly 2021 and hope to be able to bring this popular promotion back next spring.”
For now, fast food fans will have to wait and see what the all-important prizes will be.
Rewards usually generally range form free food, to cash, cars and holidays.
There’s also likely to be plenty of free chips, McFlurrys and cheeseburgers too.
Bring on 2021!
