Questions remain over how much Liverpool need to strengthen off the back of their title win.
But suggestions a club will do no business in summer can always end up being true one minute and false the next.
There aren’t too many obvious weaknesses in the Reds squad, but the right player at the right price could convince Jurgen Klopp to add to his group ahead of a season in which his team will be fighting hard on multiple fronts.
Here’s the latest on Liverpool ’s impending summer business, both in terms of the players coming in and those who might end up leaving Anfield.
Price tag for Championship loan star
Leeds United’s on-loan Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White has been one of the stand-out players in the Championship, helping the Whites launch their promotion push.
The 22-year-old had been expected to return to the south coast ahead of the 2020/21 season, but Football Insider reports Liverpool – along with a number of other top-six clubs – are interested in signing him.
White would reportedly cost £35million, a substantial fee for a player with no Premier League experience.
The centre-back has just two senior Brighton appearances to his name – both in the League Cup, after coming through the Seagulls’ academy.
He has formed a key part of the best defence in the Championship this season, with Leeds conceding just 32 goals in 39 games and sitting eight points clear of third place as the competition enters the home straight.
Teenage German star could be set for Reds switch
A lot of Liverpool’s business over the last few years has focused on strengthening the next generation of first-teamers, with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg brought in before turning 18.
And now another name appears to be on the club’s shopping list, this time before even playing a senior game.
That player is Nick Breitenbucher, currently on the books of Roberto Firmino’s former club Hoffenheim.
Breitenbucher scored 13 goals in 16 games for Hoffenheim’s under-17 side in the 2019/20 season, including four in an 8-1 win over Frankfurt back in September.
And now, according to the Guardian, Liverpool and Chelsea are two of the teams interested in coaxing the 17-year-old away from Germany.
He wouldn’t be the only German in the Reds’ academy, with teenage striker Paul Glatzel having committed his long-term future to the club earlier this season.
PSG urged to beat Liverpool to signing of Bayern midfielder
Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Thiago could be set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer as the German champions aim to avoid losing him on a free in 2021.
According to France Football, Jurgen Klopp “would like to attract” the former Barcelona man to Anfield, prompting the publication to implore Paris Saint-Germain to enter the chase and potentially price the Reds out of a move.
The 29-year-old joined Bayern in 2013 and made his 150th Bundesliga appearance for the club this season.
He was also part of Spain’s squad at the 2018 World Cup, playing two group stage games.
As noted in France Football’s report, Thiago was in the Bundesliga’s top 10 for tackles and interceptions this season, despite Bayern’s dominance in possession, and the report claims he would represent “a golden opportunity” for PSG and their Champions League rivals.
